Debrief

Returning home to the Torch Sanctum, both Catarina and Candle find some very disapproving paladins, and quickly skedaddle before they can be questioned too closely. Nonetheless, they feel that their actions have not gone unnoticed.

Catarina debriefs with Grand Magister Isabella, showing off her new and more Dreamer-like appearance, which meets with some concern. She also mentions the existence of the Song of Unknowing, which seems to disturb the Grand Magister - she has some awareness of the theoretical principles behind such a feat of weaving, but hopes very dearly that nobody would ever be stupid or desperate enough to actually make it, let alone use it. Catarina wisely chooses not to drop that she knows how to replicate these effects, and leaves the increasingly alarmed Isabella in peace. This done, she hires/browbeats a Forest Touched into regrowing her limb, and then performs a conflict ritual to weaponise her musical talents. She is somewhat successful in this regard.

Candle tries to sell her knowledge of the Song to Grandmaster Minerva, which provokes a response surprisingly similar to that of the Grand Magister: though she greatly values a Dreamer superweapon, it's very much the sort of mutually-assured destruction that the Throne is, at least in theory, not about. She attempts to convince Candle to surrender the memories to her rather than simply transferring them, but is unsuccessful, eventually trading the information for gratitude. This done, she communicates with the Mirror while studying music, and eventually finds a way for it to reflect and transmit music. She cannot be sure that this will work, of course, because it is very difficult to test the Song without major destructive consequences, but it certainly seems functional.

A dark pall sets in over the city, not unlike that seen in the run-up to Shadow Song. Around the Torch sanctum, there is a palpable aura of despair that will need to be addressed soon.

Consequences

The World

  • The Torch may need its faith in humanity restored. Again.
  • A number of Nephilim now have, through Candle's Blessing, a backdoor to the Blessing system and therefore to Anata herself, who as the last Dreamer they would dearly like dead.
  • The whereabouts of Unit 11 and Unit 00 are currently unknown. Anybody connected to Unit 18 feels a distinct sense of sorrow from the connection.

Candle

  • Scales of Justice (Severe, Mind): From this point on, you feel all pain that is inflicted on the vulnerable as a result of your actions.
  • Gain an additional use of the Switch skill. This skill switches you with the Mirror rather than your familiar, and must be used at some point in the adventure.
  • Has the facility to play the Song of Unknowing, an incredibly dangerous bit of Connection weaving that forcibly severs any and all connections in the immediate area, including those between the basic building blocks of matter, the mind and the body, space, time, concept and light. Prolonged use will eventually start to dissolve reality entirely. Once started, likely through means of a ritual, this is very difficult to start or meaningfully control.
  • The side-effects of connection to the Red King fade at the pace you OC want them to, which may be not at all.
  • +3 Favour for selling the details of the Song.
  • +1 Death

Catarina

  • Scales of Justice (Severe, Mind): From this point on, you feel all pain that is inflicted on the vulnerable as a result of your actions.

  • The side-effects of connection to the Red King fade at the pace you OC want them to, which may be not at all.
  • +1 Favour for details given to Isabella.
  • -2 Favour to get an arm back
  • 1 Self-protecting musical instrument
  • May gain Conflict charge through singing as if she were arguing.
  • May call a BLAST DOUBLE REPEL once per encounter.
  • May read and write the Dreamer language, though doing so is physically painful as a result of your conflict-y nature.
  • Touched by the Phage (Severe, Body): You are host to an Outsider parasite, an aggressive and highly contagious aspect of the Survivor that is kept within you only by powerful force of will. The Phage is omni-infectious, and will attempt to spread through biological, magical and memetic vectors. Once per encounter, you may call CURSE. If you reach an encounter without calling CURSE, lose a maximum body hit. These hits are restored at the point where you next call CURSE and successfully spread the infection to something.
