This is an old revision of the document!

The Imperial Commission

Black Ichor

  • Black Ichor, a dark and tarry substance, sometimes bubbles up from beneath the ground without warning.
  • Black Ichor has many remarkable properties.
  • One property of Ichor is the way in which it slowly mutates living and inanimate substances it comes into contact with.
  • Even a small drop of raw Ichor is enough to produce several Ichorwerks and, given time, to mutate the substances it comes into contact with.
  • Equipment that handles and stores Ichor has to be specially treated to avoid its mutagenic properties.

Commissioners

  • Commissioners - also known as Ichor Savants - study how to manipulate Ichor to brew potions and tinctures, known as Ichorwerk.
  • Commissioners can usually be identified by their numerous bodily mutations, earned through long and diligent hours studying Ichor on behalf of the city.
  • As a rule of thumb, the more mutations a Commissioner has, the more senior they are.
  • Mutations are a source of great pride and are seen as both beautiful and desirable.
  • To become a Commissioner, one must petition the Imperial Commission. If successful, applicants are required to pass an exam administered by the Commission. The contents of the exam are unknown.

Ichor and the Law

  • By Imperial Decree all Black Ichor belongs to the Crown and owning any without permission is Treason.
  • The Imperial Commission and its members have permission to own and study Ichor by Imperial writ.
  • They therefore have a monopoly in this area.
  • Owning Ichorwerk produced by the Commission is not illegal, but it is difficult to obtain.
